Glaucoma, Cataract, & Refractive Specialist

Dr. Mai’s cataract practice is full scope, incorporating the latest technology to optimize outcomes. He performs femtosecond laser–assisted cataract surgery and offers all intraocular lens options, including Light Adjustable Lenses (LAL). He is also trained in ORA intraoperative aberrometry to enhance surgical precision and visual results.

In addition, Dr. Mai provides comprehensive refractive surgery options—including LASIK, PRK, and EVO ICL—allowing eligible patients to reduce or eliminate dependence on glasses or contact lenses.

Education, Certification, and Background

A Southern California native, Dr. Mai completed his undergraduate studies in Microbiology and Immunology at UCLA, where he graduated summa cum laude. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and completed his internship and ophthalmology residency at the University of Utah’s Moran Eye Center.

Dr. Mai further advanced his expertise through dual fellowship training. He completed an anterior segment fellowship at Vance Thompson Vision, receiving advanced surgical training in cornea, glaucoma, and refractive surgery. He also completed a global ophthalmology fellowship at the Moran Eye Center, broadening his experience in delivering high-quality eye care across diverse settings.

In addition to clinical care, Dr. Mai is deeply committed to education—both locally and internationally—with a focus on expanding access to high-quality eye care by training and empowering local physicians through education and surgical mentorship.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Mai enjoys the outdoors and can often be found camping, backpacking, or snowboarding.
