Possible Cataract Surgery Complications
by Dougherty Laser Vision

Cataract surgery has advanced over the years. While cataract laser surgery today is fairly safe, with successful outcomes, there are still several potential risks one needs to know. Just like other surgeries, cataract surgery could have possible complications.

Knowing about these ahead of time helps you decide whether you want to proceed with the cataract surgery. For example, two of the more common complications are itching eyes and redness in the eyes.

Mild itching is a sign the eye is healing post-surgery. However, if the eye itches severely, then there could be something else going on. Severe itching should be reported to your eye surgeon immediately.

Redness is the result of the surgical procedure and normally clears up within a few days. Pain, swelling, and discharge can also accompany redness. Your eye surgeon typically prescribes an antibiotic to help prevent infection.
