What Is Advanced LASIK & PRK Technology?

Advanced LASIK and PRK technology refers to the suite of laser platforms and imaging systems that allow us to create fully customized treatment plans for each eye. These technologies go beyond traditional LASIK by integrating high-resolution corneal mapping, wavefront measurements, and minimally invasive laser systems to enhance precision and reduce post-operative visual disturbances.

For example, the Ziemer Z8 femtosecond laser creates ultra-thin, precise flaps during LASIK with minimal disruption to surrounding tissue, promoting faster recovery and greater comfort. The Allegretto WaveLight® laser delivers wavefront-optimized treatments that maintain the natural shape of the cornea and help reduce glare and halos. For PRK and surface ablation cases, the NIDEK excimer laser offers exceptional accuracy, making it ideal for patients with thin corneas or more complex visual needs.

These technologies also support topography-guided LASIK, which uses detailed corneal maps to treat subtle surface irregularities — offering an even greater level of customization for qualified patients.

Safe, Precise, and Effective Vision Correction

LASIK and PRK procedures are designed to reshape the cornea and correct refractive errors like nearsightedness and astigmatism. During LASIK, the Ziemer Z8 femtosecond laser is used to create a precise corneal flap. The excimer laser — either Allegretto or NIDEK, depending on your unique needs — is then used to gently reshape the underlying tissue, correcting your vision based on your individualized treatment plan.

PRK follows a similar approach but does not involve flap creation, making it ideal for certain corneal shapes or patients with thinner corneas. Both procedures are bladeless, highly controlled, and use low-energy, high-accuracy lasers that are safe for the eye and produce very little heat. The result is a vision correction experience that’s optimized for your eye anatomy and visual goals.

Personalized Precision for Each Eye

Every patient’s eyes are unique — and your treatment should be too. With our advanced LASIK and PRK technologies, we take detailed measurements of your vision and corneal surface to build a treatment plan tailored specifically for each eye. If needed, topography-guided LASIK may be used to correct irregularities in the shape of the cornea that glasses or contacts cannot address.

Laser vision correction is typically performed one eye at a time, and if the first procedure goes smoothly, the second eye can often be treated on the same day. With systems like the Ziemer Z8, Allegretto WaveLight®, and NIDEK, we’re able to deliver an unparalleled level of surgical precision, leading to faster recovery and more reliable visual outcomes.
