A very common age-related vision problem is the development of cataracts, which occur when the eye’s natural lens becomes cloudy and unable to focus to produce sharp images. This is treated very effectively with the new generation of accommodating intraocular lens implants that restore vision to aging eyes.
LASIK treats nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism by removing precise amounts of tissue in the specific parts of the cornea. The procedure usually takes about 3 minutes per eye.
Pterygium (Surfer’s Eye):
Pterygium is a common condition that affects those that spend a lot of time outdoors. While sometimes referred to as “surfers eye”, it affects anyone that doesn’t wear sunglasses outside. Pterygium is the growth of pink , fleshy tissue on the white of the eye. While not serious, it can cause annoying symptoms as having a foreign body in the eye. If the Pterygium continues to grow, it can cover the pupil and impede your vision, medical treatment will be required if this happens or if it becomes irritated and red.
Glaucoma refers to a group of eye conditions that lead to damage to the optic nerve. This nerve carries visual information from the eye to the brain. In most cases, damage to the optic nerve is due to increased pressure in the eye, also known as intraocular pressure (IOP).
