The Crystalens – Cataract and Reading Vision Surgery
By the time most people hit their early 40s, they begin to experience difficulty with close up (reading) vision. Sometimes confused with farsightedness, this age-related condition is called presbyopia, and is defined as the loss of the eye’s flexibility to change focus (or zoom) through a range of distances.
Another very common age-related vision problem is the development of cataracts, which occur when the eye’s natural lens becomes cloudy and unable to focus to produce sharp images.
The good news is that both of these common vision problems can now be treated very effectively with the new generation of accommodating intraocular lens implants that restore seamless all-distance vision to aging eyes.
Approved by the FDA in 2003, the Crystalens treats cataracts and presbyopia by replacing the eye’s natural lens with a remarkable advanced new lens designed with tiny “hinges” that allow the implant to move forward and backward in response to the eye’s focusing muscles.
The procedure takes just minutes and is almost identical to standard monofocal cataract surgery. The results are permanent.
Dougherty Laser Vision was one of the first vision correction centers in the nation to offer this exciting treatment option, and Dr. Dougherty has performed more Crystalens procedures than just about any other surgeon in the Los Angeles area.
